Escape rosecliff island level9/14/2023 ![]() The main objective is to find and click on all the items from a list at the bottom of the screen, on locations around the island filled with assorted objects, within a time limit. I didn’t see anything in this game that would really distinguish it from anything else in the genre, but if this is your thing, then by all means, go for it.Escape Rosecliff Island is a hidden object game where the player takes the role of a castaway stranded on a mysterious and remote island. The main quest will amuse you for about eight to ten hours, and then once you’ve finished, you can either start fresh or play one of the two extra modes you’ve unlocked for even more hidden object or Bejeweled-style fun. There’s not much that can be said about hidden object puzzle games, and once you’ve played one, you’ve likely played them all. If, however, you love to search for hidden objects, this game is just right for you. But nine hours of hunting for objects and then a five minute puzzle at the end doesn’t seem like a fair trade-off for someone who loved the puzzles from Myst. Otherwise, the music is on the ambient side and would fit well if you really were stuck on an island.Īt the end of the game, you’re finally given an actual puzzle to solve, one that reminds me of the clever puzzles from Myst. I know it’s just a coincidence, since the game was released first, but it’s something that I happened to notice. While playing the minigames, a song plays that reminds me an awful lot of Amy’s Theme, the haunting tune from Doctor Who composed for the Doctor’s current companion. The only object I had trouble with was the pepper mill, but then they’re probably not in common usage in Canada.Īlso, if you click on too many objects that are not a part of the list down below, you lose points. Usually, the game will tell you what object it wants you to find, like “Hat” or “Knife”, but one or two objects per location will be identified like “Catches Mice” or “Straightens Hair.” Nothing too difficult, as most people should be familiar with cats and combs. Occasionally, though, the game likes to be cheeky. If you’re good at hidden object puzzles, you should be able to complete each level without too much trouble. ![]() You’ll gain time bonuses if you find objects quickly enough, and if you don’t use any hints at all during a level, you earn a substantial bonus. If you’re stuck trying to find one of the harder to see objects, you can buy a hint at the cost of some points. ![]() About eighty to ninety percent of the objects in each location can be found easily enough, they stand out pretty well. The game doesn’t ever get any more difficult than it starts out as. Once you beat the minigame, you’re given another object that you’re going to need in order to escape the island. These range from word search puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, a Bejeweled-style match three game, and others. Once you’ve found everything and passed the level, you’re given a minigame to play. You have a certain amount of time to clear a level a level consists of three to eight locations where you have to find at least ten arbitrary objects (along with a pair of optional locks that unlock extra game modes), stuff like anchors and cats and playing card symbols. The island appears to be deserted there’s no one to help you, no hatches to explore, and no smoke monsters to try to kill you, so your only enemy is time itself. The game starts by telling you that you’re shipwrecked on an island thanks to a rather nasty storm. The rest of the game resembles other styles, but I’d better begin at the beginning. Escape Rosecliff Island is a hidden object puzzle game, and so the majority of the game resembles a scavenger hunt or a Where’s Waldo book. I don’t even know where to start with a game like this one.
